Desiccants have been used for decades to control moisture related problems in nearly every industry, now desiccant technology has been adapted for use in the building industry. Desiccant Strips have been sized for a typical 2x4 or 2x6 wall cavity built 8 feet tall and 16 inches on center. The desiccant blend encapsulated within the Desiccant Strip is capable of adsorbing up to 40% of its own weight in moisture causing your framing lumber to dry quickly and safely. By hanging one Desiccant Strip in each wall cavity, you are introducing enough drying capacity to ensure that no matter how wet your lumber was at the time of construction. Your framing lumber moisture content will quickly be dried to below 20%, the common threshold for mold growth on lumber. This drying commonly occurs within 48 hours of installing the Desiccant Strip and immediately applying the vapor retarded.
