Two Power Tools Stopped Working Same Day

Two power tools quit on the very same day. Circular saw died and started to smoke. Jigsaw just stopped working all of a sudden and only turns on for a short period and then shuts off again. Someone said to replace the motor brushes on both tools. However, I'm not a heavy tool user -- just an occasional user. The jigsaw is probably ten years old, but has had very little use. The circular saw is newer, and with only a couple of hours on it. Does this sound like motor brushes?
