A bedroom above an unheated garage extension is very cold in the winter. What's the advice on how to insulate this ceiling/floor (there is none there presently)?
Solutions:
Put fencing staples part way into the joists and use green garden twine to provide diagonal lacing between adjacent joists to support 4-inch (100mm) fiberglass insulation. Then put in plasterboard or hardboard or some other type of covering. Alternatively, you can get paper-backed fiberglass and nail the paper to the joists using felt nails. A fellow DIYer's workshop has thick expanded polystyrene slabs forming a complete ceiling, but that is also a fire hazard. |
